It's back to school time! What is your favorite part? Is it the new backpack? Is it the way your classroom looks- all new and everything in its right place? Is it all the new school supplies (I'm a weirdo and love how new crayons smell!)?

Starting a new school year gives us all the opportunity to start fresh! A new hairstyle, a new pair of earrings, a new attitude!

We are told in Matthew 5 verse 16 this: "Let your light shine before others so that they may see your good works and give glory to your Father who is in heaven."

What does that even mean? It means this: Before your baptism, you were dead in sin. When the Holy Spirit worked faith in your heart, it's like he put a light in there; that light is Jesus. The things you say, the way you behave every day is a reflection of that light. Because of that, you should only do and say things that show how great Jesus is!

For example: You're at band rehearsal and everyone is talking. Your teacher tells everyone it's time to quit talking so she can start her lesson with the class. If you wanted to show that you love Jesus in that moment, what would you do? You, of course, would immediately listen to your teacher and quit talking. By doing this, you are obeying the commandment that says to honor your parents (and others in authority). You would be shining your light! Others would see you behaving the correct way.

What are other ways you can let your light shine this school year? You can be a good friend. You can do your work to the best of your ability. There are so many ways to let your light shine! Try to let your light shine every day!

Have a great school year!

Your Friend, Christine
